On 16th November, 1914, the1st Devonshire battalion of 14 Brigade, 3rd Division moved into trenches at Meteren, close to Bailleul, in France, where they remained until relieved on 28th November. Herbert Whipple was seriously wounded on 20th November, 1914 and died from these wounds four days later on 24th November. |
